High powered magnetic connectors are used to attach the boom to the metal hull of boats allowing the boom to rapidly encircle the spilled oil limiting its spread and to allow for skimming operations to become more effective.
The connector is usually placed on the hull at the waterline. One side is fitted with magnets while the other with an ASTM compliant boom connector suitable for booms up to 24 inches overall.
An over center handle at the top of the connector releases the connector from the hull and a flotation buoy prevents loss during handling.
